About Cheri

Cheri on Ice is the creation of Cheri Sicard and is a production of Enigma Communications.

Who is Cheri and why is she “On Ice”?

Cheri Sicard is your host to this exploration of freezer and make ahead cooking for foodies. Cheri practically began her experience with freezer cooking in infancy. The child of depression era parents who cooked everything from scratch and used every bit of what they had, the freezer at Cheri’s childhood home was always packed with a wide variety of delicious foods. The practice continued throughout her life.

While the physical and culinary landscapes of Cheri’s life have changed frequently and dramatically over the years, her love of food, wine and cooking have been a constant.

Cheri spent her 20s and 30s traveling the world as a magician and circus performer. She picked up international culinary techniques and secret family recipes both from locals in the places she performed, and from the matriarchs of some of the world’s top circus dynasties. Where else could a young woman in her 20s learn how to make authentic British Trifle, Italian “gravy,” and Mexican corn tortillas in a single season?

After leaving the road full time Cheri and business partner Mitch Mandell began exploring opportunities in the online world, back in 1994, before there really was an internet as we now know it. The cooking website that resulted, FabulousFoods.com, became one of the net’s most popular destinations for recipes, cooking instructions, and cookbook reviews, attracting over a million visitors per month.

Over the 14 years she served as editor for the website, Cheri often relied on the convenience of freezer cooking in her personal life in order to fit everything into her busy schedule. Not only did the freezer provide wholesome every night dinners, it helped streamline the frequent entertaining Cheri did in her Los Angeles home, from intimate dinner parties to huge outdoor bashes.

After selling FabulousFoods.com to SheKnows.com in 2009, Cheri finally had time to do what friends and fans had been asking her for years — to put her thoughts and freezer friendly recipes on paper. The result is her first cookbook, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Easy Freezer Meals, (2011, Alpha Books). In this book Cheri covers the basics of freezer cooking and beyond and includes over 120 recipes for family friendly freezer fare.

This blog takes the freezer and make ahead cooking concept a step further with more sophisticated recipes and make ahead entertaining ideas that go far beyond the hearty casseroles and comfort foods typically associated with freezer cooking.

Cooking extra food to stash in the freezer for later use takes about the same amount of time as you already spend in the kitchen. Why not start to use your freezer in a creative new way, bank delicious meals and snacks, and enjoy nights off from cooking chores anytime you choose. Join us here at Cheri on Ice for lots of great recipes and ideas to help you do just that.

Cheri is available for interviews and public appearances, book signings,  cooking demonstrations and  classes, recipe development,  and more.
